FOCUS: Believing God's Word
Believing is sometimes viewed as generating a force field; getting enough mental energy going to make things happen. We mentally grunt and groan. We repeat over and over to ourselves "Lord I believe, Lord I believe, Lord I believe". We strive and stress, BUT God is the one with the power and ability to bring His Word to pass. It is by discipline and controlling one's mind, renewing one's mind to the Word of God, that wonderful things happen. It also doesn't matter what the circumstances are at the time, they have nothing to do with the results people receive. To truly believe God's Word you need to start with God's Word.
Matt 17:14 And when they were come to the multitude,
there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to
him, and saying,
:15 Lord, have mercy on my son:
for he is lunatic, and sore vexed:
for ofttimes he falleth into the fire,
and oft into the water.
:16 And I brought him to thy disciples,
and they could not cure him.
:17 Then Jesus answered and said,
O faithless and perverse
generation,
how long shall I be with you?
how long shall I suffer you?
bring him hither to me.
:18 And Jesus rebuked the devil;
and he departed out of him:
and the child was cured from that very hour.
:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said,
Why could not we cast him out?
:20 And Jesus said unto them,
Because of your unbelief:
verily I say unto you,
if ye have faith as a grain of
mustard seed,
ye shall say unto this mountain,
Remove hence to yonder place;
and it shall remove:
and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
It takes preparation to conquer the unbelief that is ingrained in us. Preparation of our hearts and minds with the Word of God. The Word is true, we must come to the point where we believe it beyond a shadow of a doubt. To see the promises of God come to pass we believe His Word. We believe God's promises in the Word and by God's power they are brought to pass in our lives.
It is not by our greatness that signs, miracles, and wonders happen; we simply believe. By the greatness of the power of God signs, miracles and wonders happen. By the greatness of the promises of God signs, miracles and wonders happen.
Matthew 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples,
he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out,
and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of
disease.
They already received the promises of God, they had the power to do it, and they had the Word of God. They needed only the faith of a grain of mustard seed. Bishop K.C. Pillai said this seed is so small that if you got it in your eye you would not know it was there. God really does all of the work, our responsibility is to believe His Word. We supply the believing of a mustard seed. Consider a three year-old, he tries to push something that is too hard for him to do alone so he asks his father to help. Daddy really does all the pushing but the child is there "pushing" also. We add so little that it can hardly be felt, what is so great is the power of God.
We see in the Word of God that people believed God's promises and God brought them to pass. It had nothing to do with circumstances or personality. Today God makes his Word available; we believe the promises, and God takes care of us completely.
Believing
- Definition
It is to have confidence and trust in the information received
to the end that the information is acted upon.
Dr. Victor Paul Wierwille writes in his book The Bible Tells Me So in the chapter entitled The Law of Believing:
There is power in believing. There is power in this world to which you and I as born-again believers have easy access. This power will enable us to overcome our shortcomings and our difficulties, bringing release and victory to our lives. This power is from God. He is everywhere present, which means that He is with you right now. The key involved is knowing and receiving His power, which is the basis on which the whole abundant life hinges. The law of believing brings phenomenal results to all those who apply and practice the principles. . .
The word "believe" is a verb which connotes action. Therefore, believing the Word of God, taking the Word of God literally and acting upon it, brings results. This is the law of believing and this is the action that will bring release and victory to your life in every situation. "If thou canst believe, all things are possible [presently available] to him that believeth." Mark 9:23b
There will always be a variety of action that will be taken pertinent to each situation, the important part is: God is the one with the power and ability. Believing is the action that unleashes the power.
